G-2130 Bolt Type Bow Shackles

G-2130 bolt type bow (anchor) shackles with nut and cotter pin, hot-dip galvanized. For permanent and vibration-prone connections. Sizes and WLL on request.

Screw pin or safety bolt — which to choose

The G-2130 pattern is a bolt type bow (anchor) shackle — bolt, nut and cotter pin, for permanent or vibration-exposed rigging.

  • Screw pin shackles are used mainly for non-permanent applications — they are quick to fit and remove.
  • Safety bolt shackles (bolt, nut and cotter pin) are used for long-term or permanent applications, or wherever the load may slide on the pin and cause it to rotate.
  • Dee (chain) shackles are mainly used on one-leg systems, while bow (anchor) shackles are mainly used on multi-leg systems.
Caution — Never exceed the WLL marked on the shackle, and apply the angle factor when it is used in a multi-leg configuration.

G-2130 is the U.S. pattern for a bolt type bow shackle, also called a bolt type anchor shackle. Instead of a screw pin it uses a bolt with a nut and a cotter pin, so once fitted the pin cannot rotate loose.

That makes G-2130 the right choice where a shackle stays in place for a long time, where the connection is subject to vibration or dynamic loading, or where the shackle is part of a safety-critical assembly.

Key facts

  • Bow (anchor) pattern — large O-shaped loop for loads from several directions.
  • Bolt, nut and cotter pin — the cotter pin stops the nut working loose.
  • Preferred for permanent, long-term and safety-critical connections.
  • Hot-dip galvanized for corrosion protection in exposed and marine environments.
  • Size and working load limit permanently marked on the body; values on request.

How it compares

G-209 is the screw pin version of the same bow pattern — quicker to fit and remove, but the pin can unscrew. Choose G-2130 when the connection must not loosen. G-2150 is the dee (chain) version of the same bolt type shackle, for a straight in-line pull.

FAQ

Why use a bolt type shackle instead of a screw pin one?
A screw pin can work loose under vibration or if the load shifts. The bolt, nut and cotter pin on a G-2130 cannot, which is why it is specified for permanent and safety-critical connections.
What is the difference between G-2130 and G-2150?
Both are bolt type shackles. G-2130 is the bow (anchor) pattern with a large loop; G-2150 is the dee (chain) pattern for a straight in-line pull.
Does the cotter pin have to be fitted?
Yes. The cotter pin is what prevents the nut from backing off. Always fit it.
